Wallpaper installation in Atlanta, from powder rooms to feature walls

Good wallpaper looks effortless because the hard part is invisible: a smooth, primed wall, a plumb first strip and pattern matched at every seam and corner.

Quick answer

Wallpaper installation in Atlanta starts with the wall, not the paper: patching and sanding it smooth, then sealing it with a wallpaper primer so the paper grips now and strips cleanly later. We plan the layout so the pattern centers on the room's focal point, hang from a plumb line, and match every seam before trimming at ceilings and trim.

The job

What goes into hanging wallpaper well

Paper shows every flaw underneath it, so walls are patched, skimmed where needed and sanded smooth. A wallpaper primer such as Zinsser Shieldz goes on next; it helps the paper slide into place and means it will come off without tearing the drywall face when you change it.

Traditional papers go up with the adhesive the maker specifies, often a Roman product, while peel-and-stick lines like Tempaper need an extra-smooth, fully cured surface. Brands such as York and Graham & Brown print their own hanging instructions, and we follow them.

What moves the price

What moves the price of wallpaper installation

  1. Wall area and height

More strips and taller walls mean more labor and material.

  2. Pattern repeat

Large repeats waste more paper and take longer to match.

  3. Paper type

Grasscloth and specialty papers are slower to hang than vinyl.

  4. Wall preparation

Skimming, patching and removing old paper come first.

  5. Openings and details

Windows, outlets, niches and ceilings add careful trimming.

  6. Who supplies the paper

You can buy your own paper; we'll confirm the quantity first.

What we handle

Wallpaper we hang

Traditional pasted wallpaper

Paste-the-wall and pre-pasted papers are the most common. We measure and plan the room so the pattern starts at the most visible point and any mismatch lands in a hidden corner, usually behind a door. Strips are booked where the paper calls for it, hung from a plumb line, smoothed without stretching and trimmed cleanly at the ceiling and baseboard. Seams are butted rather than overlapped, and every seam is matched to the pattern repeat before the adhesive sets, so the wall reads as one continuous design.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper

Removable peel-and-stick paper suits renters, kids' rooms and walls you may want to change again. It looks simple but is unforgiving: it grips hard once placed, telegraphs every bump underneath and can lift in humid rooms. We sand and prime the wall and wait for fresh paint to cure fully before hanging, since vinyl adhesive on uncured paint pulls it off later. Strips are aligned carefully the first time, because repositioning stretches the vinyl and ruins the match at the seam.

Grasscloth and specialty papers

Grasscloth, linen, cork and other natural papers vary from strip to strip by design, and the seams always show a little. We lay the rolls out before hanging to order them so color shifts look intentional rather than patchy. These papers stain easily from adhesive on the face, so every strip is handled with clean hands and edges are wiped immediately. Many specialty papers are hand-trimmed and require extra care at corners, outlets and window returns, which is reflected in the time the job takes.

Feature wall and ceiling papering

A single papered wall behind a bed, in a dining room or in a powder room changes a space more than repainting all four. Ceilings are the bolder version and one of the harder installs, since every strip is hung overhead and has to stay aligned across the whole plane. We check the ceiling for flatness, prime it, and use a helper to hold long strips in place while they're smoothed. Light fixtures and vents are removed so the paper tucks neatly behind their covers.

Around Atlanta

Wallpaper in Atlanta's older homes

Wallpaper in Atlanta homes goes onto very different walls, from old plaster in older intown houses to fresh drywall in newer builds across the suburbs. Plaster can be wavy, cracked or carrying layers of earlier paper, while new drywall has a paper face that tears if paper is hung without a primer. We check which one we're papering, repair or skim what needs it, and prime accordingly, because the finish only looks as good as the wall behind it.
