Accent walls and specialty finishes

Accent walls, limewash and specialty finishes in Atlanta

One well-chosen wall can change a room more than repainting all four. The catch is that strong colors and textured finishes show every flaw, so the prep and the sampling matter.

Quick answer

Accent wall painting in Atlanta usually means one wall in a deep color, a limewash or plaster finish, or a whole room drenched in one shade. Deep colors often need two or three finish coats over a tinted primer to look even, and textured finishes are applied by hand in layers. We put samples on your actual wall before committing.

The job

Getting a bold wall right

Dark and saturated colors show lap marks, patches and uneven walls far more than light neutrals. So walls are patched, sanded and primed with a tinted primer before the color goes on.

Colors from lines like Farrow & Ball and Benjamin Moore are sampled on the wall in the room's own light, and textured finishes use real limewash such as Portola or Romabio, not paint made to imitate it.

What moves the price

What moves the price of an accent wall

  1. Wall size and height

A tall stairwell wall takes more time than a bedroom wall.

  2. Color depth

Deep colors need tinted primer and extra finish coats.

  3. Finish type

Limewash and venetian plaster are layered by hand.

  4. Wall condition

Strong colors show flaws, so patching and sanding matter more.

  5. Layout work

Stripes, arches and color blocks need precise measuring and taping.

  6. Trim included

Color drenching adds trim and doors in matching enamel.

What we handle

Feature finishes we paint

Accent wall being cut in at the ceiling

Accent wall painting

A single wall in a stronger color, usually the one your eye lands on first: behind a bed, a sofa or a fireplace. The choice of wall matters as much as the color, and we'll talk it through on site. The wall is patched and sanded flat, primed with a tinted primer, and given two or three coats so the color is even from any angle. Edges at the ceiling and adjacent walls are cut by hand for a crisp line.

Limewashed living room wall with soft brush movement

Limewash and venetian plaster

Limewash is a mineral finish brushed on in loose, crossing strokes that dry to a soft, cloudy variation, while venetian plaster is troweled in thin layers and burnished to a smooth, stone-like sheen. Both are applied by hand and each wall comes out slightly different, which is the point. Limewash needs a mineral primer on drywall; venetian plaster needs a very flat wall. We make a sample board first so you can see the movement before we do the whole wall.

Color drenching

Color drenching paints walls, trim, doors and sometimes the ceiling in one color or tones of the same color. It makes a small room feel deliberate rather than small, and it suits studies, powder rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms. The work is detailed, because trim and doors need a harder enamel in the same color while walls take a flatter finish. We match sheens carefully so the room reads as one color without looking flat or patchy. Samples of both sheens go up side by side first.

Two-tone and color-blocked walls

Two-tone walls split a wall horizontally, often darker below and lighter above, sometimes with a painted stripe at chair-rail height. Color blocking uses shapes, arches or bands to frame a bed, desk or doorway. Both need precise layout: we measure and level every line, tape with a sealed edge so paint doesn't bleed, and pull the tape at the right moment. An arch behind a bed or a painted headboard shape is one of the most requested versions.

Around Atlanta

Refreshing a room between full repaints

Atlanta interiors generally get fully repainted every 5 to 7 years, so an accent wall or a drenched powder room is often how owners change a space in between. In West End, where rental demand stays steady beside the Atlanta University Center and the BeltLine Westside Trail, we also paint the other way round: bold walls in rentals and resale homes are taken back to a neutral before the next tenant or listing.
