Fascia and soffit repair

Fascia, soffit and roofline trim repair in Atlanta

The roofline is where overflowing gutters, blown rain and attic moisture all meet the wood. We replace what has rotted, fix what let the water in, and leave it painted and sealed.

Quick answer

Fascia and soffit repair in Atlanta usually traces back to gutters that overflow or drip behind the board, and to storms that drive rain under the roof edge. We remove rotted fascia, soffit and gable trim, check the rafter tails behind, install primed replacement boards with the right venting, and paint. The gutters are rehung and checked before we leave.

The job

Fixing the roofline and the reason it rotted

Fascia holds the gutters, soffit closes the underside of the eaves and vents the attic, and rake and frieze boards finish the gables and the top of the walls. Rot in any of them usually means water has been getting in for a while.

We take the gutter down where needed, replace rotted wood with primed stock or a composite board, reinstall soffit vents so the attic still breathes, and caulk and paint everything.

What moves the price

What moves the price of roofline repair

  1. Linear feet of damage

More rotted board means more material and labor.

  2. Rafter tail damage

Soft rafter ends behind the fascia need repair first.

  3. Gutter removal

Gutters are taken down and rehung to reach the fascia.

  4. Material choice

Composite boards cost more but don't rot.

  5. Height and pitch

Two-story rooflines and steep gables need more setup.

  6. Decorative trim

Crown, dentil or custom molding needs matching.

What we handle

Roofline repairs we make

New fascia board installed with drip edge

Fascia board replacement

Fascia rots from the top edge down when gutters overflow or when water runs behind a gutter that was hung without drip edge. We remove the gutter section, pull the rotted board, check the rafter tails for soft wood and sister or repair them if needed, then install a new primed fascia board. Adding drip edge behind the gutter is often the fix that stops the rot from returning. The gutter is rehung with proper slope and the new board painted.

Vented soffit replaced and painted

Soffit repair

Soffits sag, stain and rot when water gets into the eaves or when the attic can't vent. Wood soffit panels are replaced with new plywood or a composite, and damaged vinyl or aluminum soffit is swapped panel by panel. We keep or add vented soffit so the attic draws air correctly, and we look for signs of animals getting in through gaps, since damaged soffit is a common entry point. Wood soffits are primed and painted after installation, with every seam caulked.

Rake and gable trim repair

Rake boards run up the sloped edges of a gable and take wind-driven rain on their outer faces, especially at the lower ends where they meet the fascia. We replace rotted lengths in matching profiles, including any decorative molding, and seal the joint where rake meets fascia, which is a common water entry point. Gable vents and the trim around them are checked at the same time. Work at gable peaks is done from ladders or staging suited to the height.

Frieze board repair

Frieze boards run along the top of the wall just under the soffit, and they rot when water gets behind the fascia or through a failed soffit. Because they're tucked under the eave, the damage often goes unnoticed until the paint starts peeling. We replace rotted sections, restore any decorative crown or molding that sits with them, and caulk the joints at the soffit and siding. The new wood is primed on all sides and painted to match the trim.

Around Atlanta

Atlanta storms and the roof edge

Roof edges take the brunt of Georgia's summer storms, which drive rain sideways under the eaves and behind trim, and where caulk has aged that water soaks into the back of fascia and frieze boards that never dry out properly. Atlanta's humidity, often above 70 percent in summer, slows that drying even more. That combination is why so much of the rot we replace in Atlanta sits at the roofline, on the sides of the house facing the prevailing storms.
